The 10 teams in the previous Varsity Maine football poll justified their rankings last week by either winning their postseason games or by acquitting themselves well in losses to other ranked teams.

Therefore, the latest rankings are almost identical. The only change is Westbrook moving from tied for seventh to fifth, and Noble, which fell to No. 2 Bonny Eagle in a Class A South semifinal, dropping from fifth to eighth.

This week features the third Varsity Maine No. 1-vs.-No. 2 matchup of the season, as Thornton Academy and Bonny Eagle meet Saturday for the A South title. These two teams met in the most recent 1-vs.-2 battle, in which the Golden Trojans beat the Scots, 42-21, on Oct. 24. Thornton has been involved in all three top-two showdowns. As the second-ranked team, it beat then-No. 1 Portland 36-0 on Oct. 3. (Interesting, though ultimately meaningless: These 1-vs.-2 showdowns have occurred every three weeks.)

The Varsity Maine football poll is based on games played before Nov. 11, 2025. The top 10 teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
