Bowdoin and the University of New England advanced to the final of the inaugural Lobster Pot men’s hockey tournament by winning first-round games Friday at Family Ice Center in Falmouth.

UNE (9-2), ranked seventh in NCAA Division III, opened the tournament with a 5-1 victory over Colby (5-3-1).

The Nor’easters led 2-1 through two periods, then broke it open early in the third when Ryan Hadland and Nathan Chickering scored just 1:21 apart. Dominic Murphy, David Wilcox and Drew Olivieri also scored for UNE, and Harrison Chesney made 28 saves.

Colby Browne scored for the Mules with 7.6 seconds left in the first period.

Bowdoin (7-2-1) earned its spot in the final by shutting out Southern Maine, 5-0. Jackson Holl struck for two goals in the opening 10 minutes, including the first of Bowdoin’s three power-play goals. Bryce Bollman, Isaac Abbott and Jayson Alegria also scored, and Ricky Volpe and Aidan Lyons both had three assists.

Polar Bears goalie Jacob Osborne stopped 23 shots.
