Remington Grunhuvd, Massabesic sophomore, 106 pounds

Grunhuvd completed a sweep of the Class A South, Class A and New England Qualifiers. In the regional and state finals, Grunhuvd allowed just five total points in six matches. He finished in fifth place at New Englands. He also was the 106-pound champion at the Spartan Wrestling Annual Tournament in Sanford and was runner-up at the Noble Invitational. Grunhuvd collected his 100th career victory at the Class A meet.

Kylan Berry, Bonny Eagle junior, 113

A three-time All-State selection, Berry continued to prove himself as one of the top lightweights in New England. For the third straight year, he won regional, state and New England qualifier championships, winning eight of his nine matches by pin. Berry lost by one point in the semifinals at New Englands and finished sixth. He finished runner-up at 120 pounds at the Noble Invitational and won the 120 title at the Spartan tournament. He surpassed the 150-win mark in his career this season.

Dominic Simpson, Belfast junior, 120

Simpson earned a sweep of the KVAC, Class B North, Class B and New England Qualifier titles, allowing more than one point to just one opponent in 12 matches. He topped Winslow’s Owen Vigue by tech fall fall (16-1) for the Class B crown. He collected his 150th career victory at the regional championships. Simpson also finished as the 120-pound champion at the Noble Invitational.

Evan Kowalsky, Mt. Ararat/Brunswick junior, 126

A two-time All-State selection, Kowalsky moved up to 126 pounds this season and remained successful. He won the Class A North, Class A and New England Qualifiers. Kowalsky was particularly dominant at the state meet, winning two of his three matches by tech fall, including 18-1 in the final against Damian Skinsacos of Cheverus/Falmouth. He also finished as runner-up in his weight class at the Spartan tournament.

Evan Boulard, Massabesic junior, 132

A three-time All-State pick, the Varsity Maine Boys Wrestler of the Year finished 58-0 this season. He won his third consecutive Class A title (defending his 132 title) and didn’t allow a point. He beat Edward Little’s Cooper Blair by a 4-0 decision in the state final. Boulard allowed just three points to opponents in four matches on his way to the New England title. He is the first Maine boys wrestler to win a New England title since 2018, and the first Massabesic wrestler to take home a New England wrestling championship since former head coach Bob Eon did it in 1977.

Noah Parenteau, Belfast junior, 138

If there was a theme for Parenteau this season, it was revenge. After finishing runner-up to Mount View’s Antonio Vieira at the KVAC tournament, Parenteau beat Vieira 6-4 at the Class B North championship. Parenteau finished runner-up at the Class B meet to Mountain Valley’s Chance Watson, but then beat Watson 11-2 for the New England Qualifier title. He also picked up his 100th career victory.

Evan Madigan, Edward Little junior, 144

Madigan led the Red Eddies to the Class A North title this winter. He won KVAC, Class A North, Class A and New England Qualifier titles. Madigan was dominant at the Class A meet, winning two of his three matches by tech fall, including a 19-4 decision over AJ Ward of Mt. Ararat/Brunswick in the championship round. He also earned his 150th career victory at the A North meet.

Wyatt Chandler, Noble junior, 150

Chandler played a big role in the Knights winning Class A South and Class A team titles. He won two of his three matches by tech fall to claim the regional title. He then beat Massabesic Alex Harriman by a 12-4 decision to win the Class A championship. He also finished runner-up in his class at the Noble Invitational in December.

Dillon Gray, Mt. Blue junior, 157

A two-time All-State selection, Gray won KVAC, Class A North and Class A championships. Out of those nine possible matches, he won eight by pinfall, and beat Noble’s Kaidden Robinson by tech fall (25-8). Gray also finished runner-up to Noble’s Brady Ouellette at the Noble Invitational.

Brady Ouellette, Noble senior, 165

Ouellette became the first four-time state champion in Noble’s storied history, allowing just two points on his way to the Class A title. He pinned Henry Sites of Skowhegan in 30 seconds in the championship round. A four-time All-State selection, he also cruised to Class A South and New England Qualifier championships. Ouellette wrapped his career with a sixth-place finish at New Englands. He’s the 25th wrestler in state history to win four straight state titles.

Justin Batty, Camden Hills senior, 175

Batty wrapped up his career in fine fashion, sweeping KVAC, Class A North, Class A and New England Qualifier titles. Batty was dominant at the Class A meet, scoring 10 points or more in his semifinal and championship final matches. Batty was the 175-pound champion at the Noble Invitational and the runner-up at the Spartan tournament. He finished with 218 career victories.

Grady Pease, Medomak Valley senior, 190

A two-time All-State pick, Pease defended his title at the Class B championships, beating Muiin Cook of Maine Central Institute by a 3-1 decision in the final. Pease also cruised to KVAC, Class B South and New England Qualifier titles. He finished sixth at New Englands. He was also the runner-up at the Noble Invitational. Pease secured his 200th career victory during the postseason, a new program record.

Evan Metivier, Cheverus/Falmouth senior, 215

Metivier won Class A South, Class A and New England qualifier championships. He beat Merlin Smith of Edward Little by a 20-5 tech fall score to secure the Class A crown. In his nine Maine postseason matches, Metivier allowed just seven points. He earned his 100th career victory at the Nashua South Tournament in New Hampshire.

William Martinez, Wells senior, 285

Martinez, formerly a state contender at 190 pounds, moved up two weight classes and had a strong finish to his career. He didn’t allow a point on his way to Class B South and Class B championships. Martinez finished third at the New England Qualifier, then wrapped his career with a third-place finish at New Englands, falling to eventual New England champion Kaz Morosetti of North Kingston, Rhode Island, in the semifinals. He won the 285 title at the Spartan tournament and was runner-up at the Noble Invitational.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Dana Whittemore, Dirigo: Whittemore’s Cougars started the season without their top wrestler, Hudson Lufkin, the 2024 and ’25 state champ at 157 pounds, due to injury. They were without another star, Caiden Skidgell, until January because of a leg injury. Despite the losses, Whittemore led the Cougars the Class B South, Class B and Class B duals titles. Dirigo won the Class B title by 22.5 points, with championship performances by Skidgell (144) and Leighton Waite (165).
