Bangor’s fast start has earned it the top spot in the first Varsity Maine baseball poll of the 2026 season. As of Tuesday afternoon, when the poll votes were cast, the Rams were the state’s only 4-0 baseball team. Their victories so far include two blowouts (15-0 over Camden Hills and 23-2 over Lewiston) and closer triumphs over traditional Class A North contenders Edward Little (by and 8-5 score) and Messalonskee (6-4).

Bangor next faces reigning A North champion Mt. Ararat, which was ranked second in last year’s final poll, on Wednesday at home.

The Rams received five of the nine first-place vote in this week’s poll. Second-place South Portland, which earned a clutch 2-1 win over Falmouth on Monday, garnered three. The other No. 1 vote went to last year’s Class A champion, Biddeford, which is ranked eighth.

The Varsity Maine baseball poll is based on games played before April 28, 2026. The top 10 teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
