Family-friendly Fourth of July events are scheduled throughout the state, along with fireworks in several cities and towns. Here’s a look at some of the festivities focused on the 250th anniversary of our country in central Maine.

AUGUSTA

Augusta’s annual Fourth of July parade is set to start at 10 a.m. from the State House parking lot and will end at Old Fort Western where a safe, 13-cannon salute is planned. The theme is “America’s Birthday – 250 Years!”

Festivities are scheduled to get underway at 11:30 a.m. at Old Fort Western, 16 Cony St.

There will be a reading of the Declaration of Independence by Mayor Mark S. O’Brien, accompanied by a “feu de joie” (musket salute) by fort staff. Events set for the rest of the day include games, wagon rides and a 1 p.m. Downeast Brass Band performance.

Down the street, there will be bounce houses, a magic show, games, bubbles, food trucks, live music and more starting at 1:30 p.m. at Mill Park, 1 Northern Ave.

Fireworks start at 9:05 p.m., with a prime suggested viewing spot at Mill Park.

CLINTON

Clinton’s Central Maine Fourth of July Celebration starts Thursday at the Clinton Fairgrounds, 1450 Bangor Road.

Great American Midway will offer all-day ride bracelets every day, with Kids Day planned for Thursday.

A parade is planned at Saturday, with line-up beginning at 9 a.m. across from Tradewinds Plus on Hinckley Road. The parade starts at 10 a.m.

The main fireworks event will start at dusk at the fairgrounds to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary.

WINTHROP

Winthrop plans to kick off festivities Friday with fireworks over Maranacook Lake around 9 p.m.
