Children’s influencer and YouTube star Ms. Rachel praised U.S. Senate candidate Troy Jackson’s policies in a social media post Tuesday.
Rachel Griffin Accurso, who is popularly known as Ms. Rachel, posted on Instagram that she met with Jackson this week and that the two “had a great talk.”
“He doesn’t want our tax money funding bombing kids,” Accurso wrote. “He doesn’t want our tax money traumatizing kids in ICE detention.”
“He wants Maine families to be able to afford childcare, he wants Medicare for all and paid family leave when babies are born,” she added.
Jackson, a Democratic former lawmaker and president of the Maine Senate, is challenging Republican U.S. Sen. Susan Collins for her seat. He has made expanding access to healthcare, dismantling and abolishing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and making life more affordable for the working class key tenets of his campaign.
Accurso, who grew up in Maine and graduated from Sanford High School, is a popular children’s advocate who creates educational videos for toddlers on YouTube.
Her comments on Jackson on Tuesday — which she shared with her 5.5 million followers on Instagram — are not the first time she’s weighed in on politics.
In April, Accurso joined U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree, D-1st District, in calling for the release of a Portland teenager who had been detained by ICE and separated from her mother and siblings. She’s also gotten attention for social media posts highlighting the impact on children of Israel’s war in Gaza.
