Who is No. 1 when the previous week’s top-three teams suffered losses? That’s the question that faced Varsity Maine volleyball poll voters.

The answer is York. The Wildcats were sixth last week but earn the top spot after knocking off Gorham, which was ranked No. 1 in the season’s first three polls. The Rams are second and still received two first-place votes, one less than York.

Thornton Academy garnered the most first-place votes, four, but comes in third. The Golden Trojans earned a huge three-set sweep over Scarborough, which was ranked second in the first three polls. The Red Storm are now seventh.

Washington Academy is tied with Cheverus/Waynflete in fourth. The Raiders defeated York earlier this season but on Friday suffered their first loss to Greely, which moved up a spot to sixth.

The Varsity Maine volleyball poll is based on games played before Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026. The top 10 teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
