ROCKPORT — It’s one of the season’s most intriguing field hockey matchups, but it will have to wait.

The matchup between Mt. Ararat and Camden Hills, two of the top contenders in Class A North, was suspended Friday after a scoreless quarter because of rain. The plan is for the game to be resumed at a date to be determined, depending on officials’ availability.

Rain began drenching the field in Rockport five minutes into the game, sparking concerns about player safety. On one of Camden Hills’ four corners, the player inserting the ball fell on her follow through because of the slippery ground.

“We were really excited to play and have a good game and see what we could put together,” Mt. Ararat coach Krista Chase said. “(But) we want to play a good game with them, and keep everybody safe and be able to showcase both teams. It’s always harder to do that in the rain and the wet.”

Mt. Ararat is 8-0 and ranked fourth in the Varsity Maine Top 10. Camden Hills is 9-1 and ranked sixth in the Varsity Maine poll, but first in the Class A North Heal point standings, two spots ahead of Mt. Ararat.
