Sherri Ferrier and Jamey Wade spend time on a rainy Thursday in Ferrier’s propane-heated tent in the woods on the outskirts of Portland, where Wade also has a tent. Ferrier was not displaced by the state’s brush-clearing project along Interstate 295 but says she has had her camps torn down in the past. “It’s sad because they’re taking everything away from us,” she said.
