The most popular spot to watch the North American Wife Carrying Championship at Sunday River in Newry was the mud pond. Elizabeth Brodie starts to slip off her husband Tony's shoulders, but is able to recover, allowing the Gardiner couple to complete the course. The pair said they entered to have fun and had no illusions they would win. "You would think the water or obstacles would be the hardest, but it's the long uphill that's the killer," said Tony Brodie after catching his breath at the finish line.
