Two empty spots remain where a pond turtle and a snowshoe hare are supposed to be at the Maine Audubon’s mounted collection in Falmouth on Wednesday, after three items from its mounted collection were stolen.

Youngsters look at a mounted snowshoe hare, one of the Maine Audubon items stolen late Sunday or early Monday from an instructor’s pickup truck that was in a Portland parking garage. The hare, which is mounted in a Plexiglas box, shows the animal with a mixed white-and-brown springtime coat.
