    Daniel Eaton restores and repairs wood and canvas canoes at his shop in Denmark. Here he is working on a 1953 Old Town canoe that he is restoring. Eaton says, "Each canoe has a story and it is neat to see the owners react to seeing their restored canoe."

    Eaton fits a unfinished thwart with a traditional diamond head bolt to a previously repaired gunwale on a 1953 Old Town canoe at his shop. Eaton typically works on three canoes at a time and takes about three months to complete his work.

    Eaton is completely restoring this turn-of-the-century wood and canvas canoe that was found in the Rangeley area. He is hand sanding the white cedar. What he dislikes the most about his job: "It can be frustrating at times repairing someone's bad repair."
