    Bartender Dave Pottle recovers a pumpkin with his face painted on it from the detritus of stools and kegs around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the back corner of the Hydeout at The Wharf in Hallowell. It had been painted for Halloween by Hillary Davis who runs the Scrummy Afters candy shop upstairs. Later it was decorated with a Pilgrim hat for Thanksgiving, and most recently with a Santa Claus hat for Christmas.

    Owner Wayne Hyde paints tables Thursday at The Hydeout at the Wharf. Hyde and others have been cleaning, bleaching and painting as they get ready to reopen the bar, which was flooded because of a river ice jam, sometime next week. The ice-clogged Kennebec River can be seen through windows above walls where they had to pull off water-damaged insulation and wallboard.
