FEB. 9: Susan Pratt-Smith of Northwood, N.H., shovels a path through the snowbank leading to Higgins Beach while visiting her sister in Scarborough Feb. 8. She said she wanted her sister to be able to walk her dogs on the beach, and wanted to create a path for elderly people who like to use the beach during the winter.

The city got 2.9 inches of snow Sunday and overnight and the National Weather Service predicted another 4 to 8 inches by the time the storm tapered off by early Tuesday. Other parts of Cumberland County got about 6 inches Sunday and overnight. The wind in southern Maine was blowing between 15 to 25 mph on Monday, enough to cause deep drifts.
