Polly Lutte, 2, dispenses a hug Sunday to one of the 10 hens at her family’s farm in Farmingdale. Her father, Mark, said the short days during the long winter took a toll on the egg supply. “It’s turning into a chicken retirement community,” he remarked about the flock. The elder Lutte said more sunshine should generate more eggs at the farm this spring, in addition to a little TLC from his daughter.
