Friends and family weren't allowed to visit inside because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hallowell Police and Fire departments led a parade of about 25 cars that Gloria Carey watched through the window. After family and friends parked their cars they held signs and stood outside, six-feet apart, and sang "Happy Birthday."

    As one masked shopper rolls a cart out the door at 5:23 p.m. Friday, the next customer in line gets to enter the Augusta Walmart Supercenter. People in the line were spaced at prescribed social distances but the angle and telephoto lens make them appear closer than they were. Limits on the number of customers allowed in stores were part of Gov. Janet Mills' executive orders in response to COVID-19 pandemic.

McLoy and her family wrote encouraging messages like "we wish you well" on their car windows to school staff. Other families gave thank you cards and letters to school staff. Educare serves over 200 children ages birth through 5 and families. Diapers, pull-ups, wipes, food boxes and fresh produce were picked up during the event.
