The National Weather Service predicted the heat will dissipate with rain mid-week. Black, 86, said a bit of breeze in the 200-year-old hay loft offered respite from baling.

    Roller skater Pauline Follansbee, 19, of Waterville, glides Wednesday through North Street Recreation Area in Waterville. Follansbee, who has skated for two years, used a pair of vintage skates from the 1960s that she purchased on eBay. She listened to music by Marvin Gaye, ABBA and the Velvet Underground while skating. She switched the skates to outdoor wheels and new trucks for a smoother skate.
