    After shoveling the sidewalk, Gary Kilton spreads salt in front of the Burton M. Cross State Office Building around 7:50 a.m. Tuesday in Augusta. Most state workers had a two-hour late start and offices had delayed openings at 11 a.m. But Kilgore said that he and rest of his crew at the Bureau of General Services, that does snow removal and grounds maintenance, had a one-and-a-half hour early start at 5 a.m. instead of the usual 6:30.

    Monmouth Academy students primp each other Wednesday before rehearsing the play "The Outsiders" in the school's cafeteria. The Monmouth Academy Drama club is staging four performances of the coming-of-age drama at Cumston Hall on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with a matinee Saturday afternoon. Alyssa Littlefield, drama club director and English teacher, said 41 of 198 students enrolled at the school are either in the cast or working as stage hands for the production.
