    The Albert Church Brown Memorial Library in China got a facelift Sunday thanks to inmates of the Kennebec County jail taking part in a community service program. Eight female inmates scraped and painted shutters and doors, saving the library money and labor, according to library trustees Gerry and Mary Boyle, who also helped with the work. The substance abuse offenders receive time off from their sentences for the work and must attend counseling services.

    Skowhegan police officers Timothy Williams, Kyle Haseltine and Herbert Oliver subdue a man in the municipal parking lot near Aubuchon Hardware Friday. Police Chief Ted Blais said Haseltine was called to the hardware store to investigate a report of a man who was out of control and yelling in the store. Oliver and Williams soon joined Haseltine in subduing the man, who Blais said refused to cooperate when officers tried to get him to leave the store. The man, identified as Steven Farrell, a resident of the Trinity Church shelter, was subdued in the parking lot. Police said he appeared to be under the influence of a substance and was taken to the Somerset County Jail in East Madison. He was charged withcriminal trespass, disorderly conduct and refusing to submit to arrest.
