Paddlers take off across Minnehonk Lake at the start of the 30 Mile River Watershed Association’s 6th annual paddle trek on Saturday in Mount Vernon. About 55 people planned to do at least a portion of the 15 mile route that ends in Wayne at Tubby’s Ice Cream, according to Lidie Robbins, the group director. According to a press release, the trip route proceeds down Hopkins Pond, Hopkins Stream, Taylor Pond, Echo Lake, Mill Pond, Lovejoy Pond, Pickerel Pond and Pocasset Lake.
The 150-year-old North Chesterville Baptist Church is undergoing restoration and members were hard at work on Sunday. A new roof, painting inside and out and the bell tower are being restored, according to member Caroline Tibbetts, at left. Painting are her great-grandchildren Wyatt and Avery Oiliver and their mother Crystal Oliver.

During the afternoon shots echoed from across river as Fort Western hosts a French and Indian War encampment and then fireworks postponed from July 4 were scheduled to cap the downtown celebration.
