Judith Kay Norweg

PORTLAND – Judith Kay Norweg, 85, of Portland, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022. She was born on August 1, 1936 in Burlington, Vt., the daughter of Lenore Streeter Drake and Francis Drake.

Judith graduated from Lewiston High School in 1954. She then enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in San Antonio, Texas. This is where Judith met her husband Gunter Norweg (Berlin, Germany), who was also enlisted in the United States Air Force. The two were married in San Antonio on June 1, 1955. They were later stationed in New Mexico and when the enlistment was over, they chose to move to the Lewiston/Auburn, Maine area where they raised their family.

Besides raising her six children, Judith worked as a secretary for former Governor Longley at his insurance company, as well as a secretary for Hall & Knight Hardware in Lewiston. In later years, Judith enjoyed accompanying Gunter at the Water Crest Cottages and Motel in Wells where he took care of maintenance.

Judith was a kind and caring person. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She liked animals and shared that love with her family. She enjoyed gardening, reading, old movies, going out to eat and Flea Marketing with Gunter.

Judith was predeceased by her parents; husband Gunter Norweg (2016); son Paul Norweg (2014).

She is survived by her children, Kurt Norweg and wife Beth of Norridgewock, Hans Peter Norweg and wife Denise of Auburn, Kristen Norweg of Boston, Mass., Susan Norweg and husband Paul of Portland, Heidi Norweg and partner Robert Wood of Warren; grandchildren Matt Lakin and wife Stephanie of Portland, Tony Lakin of Portland, Kevin Norweg of Norridgewock, Kyle Norweg and wife Emily of Harrogate, United Kingdom.

A service will be held on June 10, at 12 p.m. at the Blue Star Highway Veteran’s Cemetery in Augusta
