AUGUSTA — The Calumet Education Foundation has multiple scholarships and grants available to local students.
The deadline to apply for scholarships is April 15.
A variety of scholarships are available to graduating high school students who have been accepted at colleges or other institutes of higher learning. Each scholarship has its own criteria, and information on each is available at the foundation’s website at www.calumeteducationfoundation.org. Applications are available on the site.
The foundation, according to outgoing foundation president Jan Michaud, of Augusta, awards scholarships annually and has scholarships for business majors, the arts, heating and plumbing, and other areas.
Grants are also available for second-, third-, fourth- and, sometimes, fifth-year college students, Michaud said. The grants are based on need, and students must live in the general area of Zip codes 04330 through 04339.
The deadline for grant applications is Aug. 15.
Applicants must send for an application at Grant Chairperson, Calumet Education Foundation, P.O. Box 2085, Augusta, ME 04338-2085.
Last year the foundation awarded $40,000 in grants and scholarships. To date, the non-profit organization has awarded more than $1 million to area students, Michaud said.
Roger LaJeunesse is the new president of the foundation.
