LEWISTON — State and local police in Maine are describing the death of a woman in Lewiston as suspicious.

Lewiston police were alerted late Monday following the discovery of the body in a Main Street apartment.

The state Medical Examiner’s Office transported the body to their office in Augusta for autopsy and identification. State police said one of the building’s tenants, 20-year-old Robert Ryder, was taken into custody and was being held at the Androscoggin County jail on a probation violation.

State police brought a mobile command post to the scene. Spokesman Steve McCausland says investigators are processing the building for evidence.
