OXFORD – Pittston native Ben Ashline will start at the pole for the 38th annual TD Bank 250 on Sunday night after winning the first qualifying heat.

“I’m speechless,” Ashline said in the pits. “It’s awesome.”

Ashline started ninth but worked his way up through the field to take the checkered flag.

NASCAR Sprint Cup star Kyle Busch cruised to an easy victory in the fifth qualifying heat Sunday to earn a spot in the 38th annual TD Bank 250.

The race, which is scheduled to go green at 6:30 Sunday night, drew 82 cars.

Ashline and Busch are joined in the feature by Winthrop native Jeff White, the OPS Late Model points leader who won the third qualifying heat.

Jeff Taylor, of Farmington, advanced to the 250 by finishing second in the fourth qualifying heat.

The top four drivers in the first six qualifying heats advance to the 250. There are also consolation and last chance qualifying heats, as well.

Other heat winners Sunday include Quinny Welch and Shawn Martin
