MONMOUTH — Stephany Perkins, 22, of Monmouth has been accepted into the Peace Corps and will depart for Tanzania Oct. 10 to begin pre-service training as an environment extension Peace Corps volunteer.

Upon graduation from volunteer training in January 2012, Perkins will work in environmental education and natural resource management.

During the first three months of her service, Perkins will live with a host family in Tanzania. She will then be sworn into service and assigned to a community where she will live and work for two years.

Perkins is a graduate of Monmouth Academy in Monmouth and received a bachelor’s degree in biology with summa cum laude honors from Wheaton College in Norton, Mass. She is the daughter of Dale and Deborah Perkins.
