As a retired 35-year state employee of the Department of Labor, I find it amusing that Gov. Paul LePage is once again changing his story as to why the mural was removed.
Saying the money came from a fund dedicated to providing benefits to unemployed workers shows LePage’s ignorance of the various funding elements in state government, and on live television no less.
The Department of Labor is very diligent in providing services to the unemployed as well as businesses, and spending is monitored closely by the U.S. Department of Labor.
Maybe a follow-up question to be asked is did the governor pay back the $60,000 as requested by the U.S. Department of Labor or did he raise the money on the backs of Maine people through the website set up by the Aroostook County Republican chairperson?
