FARMINGTON — A Wilton teenager was ticketed after he crashed his car into a fence at the town-owned athletic fields Wednesday night in Farmington, police said.

Daniel Herrin, 19, was driving on Front Street and lost control of his 1997 Oldsmobile while turning right onto Main Street. His car veered across the center line, went off the road, and crashed into the fence at Hippach Field about 8:30 p.m., said Police Chief Jack Peck.

Herrin was summoned on charges of driving to endanger and criminal speeding by a Maine State Police trooper who responded to the accident, Peck said. The charges indicate Herrin was driving at least 30 mph faster than the 25 mph speed limit.

Three sections of the white wooden plank fence were destroyed. Peck didn’t know how much it will cost to repair the damaged fence. Town officials plan to ask the court to order Herrin to pay restitution for the damage, Peck said.

Herrin was wearing a seatbelt during the crash and was unhurt, Peck said.
