WEST FORKS PLANTATION — The body of a local woman missing since the weekend was recovered Thursday morning by a searcher with a dog, who had been hired by the family, police said.

The woman, Donna Gail Bulmer, 52, was a selectman and tax assessor for West Forks and originally from Weeks Mills.

Edith Smith, spokeswoman for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, confirmed the body was that of Bulmer.

Bulmer’s body was found off a snowmobile trail, three-quarters of a mile from her house, Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety said. He described her as having been despondent.

The cause of death will not be released until after an official from the medical examiner’s office has examined the body at a local funeral home, McCausland said. The examination was scheduled for Thursday night.

“There is nothing suspicious here that anyone else is involved in the death,” he said.

State police detectives were called to the scene Thursday after the body was discovered, McCausland said.

Peter Dostie, owner of the Hawk’s Nest Lodge in West Forks, said Bulmer disappeared late Friday or early Saturday.

“It’s sad,” he said. “She was a nice lady.”
