WATERVILLE — Chase Cunningham scored a hat trick and added three assists to help the Messalonskee High School hockey team drub Waterville 7-1 at Alfond Rink on Tuesday night.

It was the first victory over Waterville for Messalonskee since February 2005.

“It’s a stepping stone for us,” Messalonskee coach Mike Latendresse said.

James Varney, celebrating his 16th birthday, scored two goals while Sam Dexter added a goal and two assists for the Eagles (6-1-0).

Dalton Denis scored with one second for Waterville (1-8-0), which out-shot Messalonskee 27-26.
