BOSTON — Senior Amie Davis scored five goals and added an assist to lead the University of Maine at Farmington women’s lacrosse team to a 22-5 win Sunday against Wheelock College.
Maddi Kadnar added three goals and three assist for the Beavers while Alyssa Neptune and Emma Morrison each scored three goals and Miranda Levesque had two.
Hannah Goodenow made 11 saves in goal for UMF (1-1-0) in the victory.
Softball
UMaine 3, Hofstra 2: Kylie Sparks threw a three-hitter to lead the Black Bears to the win in the finale in the Hofstra Invitational on Sunday in Hempstead, N.Y.
Earlier in the day, Maine lost 8-0 to Connecticut. Dagmar Ralphs led Maine at the plate with two hits, a run and an RBI. Maine (6-19) opens its America East schedule March 31 at Albany.
Thomas 12-6, UMPI 0-0: Sara Pavento and Kelsey Crowe picked up shutout wins as the Terriers opened their season with a pair of non-conference wins against the University of Maine at Presque Isle in Orono on Saturday night.
Pavento pitched four innings in the first game, allowing two hits while striking out four. Messalonskee graduate Alyssa Eugley contributed four hits and scored four runs.
Crowe went the distance in the second game allowing one hit while striking out 11. Lauren Hachey led the Terriers with a hit and a pair of RBIs.
Baseball
Johnson and Wales 4-4, Thomas 0-2: The Terriers opened their season with a pair of non-conference losses in East Providence, R.I.
Aldo Moral pitched a three-hit shutout in the first game with Thomas freshman Wes Perreault collecting two of those hits. Jacob Chamblee took the loss in the second game as he allowed three runs in two innings of work.
Josh Gray had an RBI double for the Terriers.
Thomas heads to Phoenix, Ariz., for a doubleheader Wednesday.
Colby splits: The Mules won a game in the ninth inning and lost one Sunday as they moved to 2-2 overall on their 12-game spring break to Florida.
Colby scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning in a 12-9 win against New Paltz State. Earlier in the day, Lawrence University scored a lone run in the bottom of the ninth inning to pull out an 8-7 win over the Mules.
Taro Gold smacked a two-run double and Brendan Gallagher had a two-run single in the ninth inning of the New Paltz win. First-year outfielder Jason Buco led the Mules with three hits, while Cony graduate Luke Duncklee and senior Mike Mastrocola both had two hits. Mastrocola had five hits in the first game, including a triple.
