JACKMAN — Residents will attend the annual Town Meeting on Thursday to vote on a proposed 2012 budget that is about $24,000 less than last year’s.

The amount proposed to be raised by taxation represents an even greater decrease of about $26,500.

Residents will go the polls at the Jackman Municipal Building from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today to elect officers. The only contested race is for the school board: Incumbent Linda Griffin is facing Deborah Petrin.

The Town Meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Forest Hills Consolidated School.

The total proposed budget of $1,140,374 would be paid for with $873,466 in estimated revenue and $266,908 in estimated taxes, according to Town Manager Kathleen MacKenzie. Changes might occur when considering amounts from surplus and other sources.

The totals compare to a 2011 budget of $1,164,339, which included $871,392 in revenue and $293,446 in taxation.
