WATERVILLE — Twenty-eight students from Mid-Maine Technical Center competed recently in 21 competitions at the SkillsUSA Championships. Mid-Maine Technical Center earned a total of 14 medals.

The competitions were hosted by Eastern Maine Technical College, Penobscot Job Corps and United Technology Center in Bangor. More than 600 students representing 23 career and technical schools throughout the state participated in the competitions.

The gold medal winners will represent Maine in the National SkillsUSA Championships, held June 24-27 in Kansas City, Mo.

The following Mid-Maine Technical Center students representing Messalonskee High School, Lawrence High School, Waterville Senior High School and Winslow High School earn awards:

Gold medalists: Michael Benecke, fire fighting; Makenzie Kohler, job skill demonstration A; Emily York, medical math, all of MHS; Christopher Warner, cabinetmaking; Nicholas Weymouth, precision machining technology, both of LHS; Kelsea Tortorella, architectural drafting, WSHS.

Silver medalists: Ethan Foss, fire fighting, of MHS; Zachariah Hamlin, automotive refinishing technology, of LHS; Michael Joslyn, cabinetmaking; Krieg Sirois, web design; Kyrie Tompkins, web design; Jared Wing, culinary arts, all of WHS.

Bronze medalists: Kali Emery, preschool teaching assistant, of LHS; Gregory Manocchio, precision machining technology, of WHS.
