FARMINGTON — A Weld man passed out behind the wheel and his pickup truck jumped onto a sidewalk, hit a tree and rolled over onto its side Thursday afternoon on Wilton Road, police said.

George W. Brown, 63, was driving south toward Wilton when the crash happened in front of Farmington Car Wash just before 3 p.m., said Farmington police Sgt. Michael Adcock.

Brown had cuts and scrapes on his face from the crash and declined to be taken by ambulance to the hospital. His dog, a yellow Lab and golden retriever mix named Wilson, was unharmed in the crash, Adcock said.

Brown told police he began to feel dizzy and tried to pull over just moments before fainting and crashing his 2005 GMC Sierra into the tree.

Adcock does not expect to issue any tickets, saying the fainting episode caused the crash. Brown was not wearing a seatbelt, and Adcock estimated the pickup was traveling around 30 mph, the posted speed limit.

The pickup truck’s front passenger side hit the tree, tearing the bumper off and smashing the front end. The truck was towed from the scene. An ambulance crew that treated Brown at the scene instructed him to get checked out by a doctor before driving again, Adcock said.
