GARDINER — Justin Lovely and Austin Moore each scored two goals to lead the Gardiner Area High School boys lacrosse team past Maranacook/WInthrop 7-3 in the season opener for both teams Friday.

“We moved the ball well and I was happy with our defense,” Gardiner coach KC Johnson said.

Keegan Smith, Walter Bailey and Josh Caldwell also scored for Gardiner. Cody Hickey had 16 saves for the Tigers, who led just 5-3 in the fourth quarter before scoring two unanswered goals.

Gabe Giguere, Tyler Bryant and Nolan Howe scored for Maranacook/Winthrop. Zach Bessette had 22 saves.
