School screening planned in Moscow
MOSCOW — Moscow Elementary School will hold preschool and kindergarten screening and registration tuesday and wednesday for the 2012-13 school year. To attend preschool children must be 4 years old by Oct. 15, 2012. To attend kindergarten children must be 5 years old by Oct. 15, 2012. Screening will take about one hour.
Ice out contestwinner announced
PHILLIPS — Toothaker Pond was ice free as of 3:53 p.m. Saturday, March 24. Tim Bowen of Avon had the closest prediction, making him the winner of the $360 pot. Bowen gets to keep $180 of that for himself. He has chosen to donate the other half to the Phillips Area Food Pantry.
Variety show call for acts in Hallowell
HALLOWELL — The Hallowell 250th Anniversary Committee is planning a community variety show for July 12, 13 and 14 to celebrate Hallowell’s 250th birthday. Organizers seek acts, amateur and others, that include songs, skits, dances, monologues or poetry recitation. Auditions dates to be announced. Participation is free and open to the public.

LePage signs bill to explore making east-west highway
