CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Colby College’s Dom Kone made it three championship meet wins in a row in taking the 100-meter dash at the New England Division III Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at MIT.

After placing third last year in the 100, Kone had a time of 10.71 in earning the title. Kone just missed making it two wins on the day after settling for a tight second place with a time of 21.73 in the 200 dash. MIT sophomore Tyler Singer-Clark used his home track advantage in winning with a 21.67.

Kone picked up 18 points to help the Mules finish 14th in the overall results with 20 points out of 27 scoring teams. Kone also helped the Mules score the other two points along with Brett Sahlberg, Caleb Harris and Andrew Martinez by placing seventh in the 400 relay (43.76).

Colby College’s Eva Lauer won the battle of first-year runners and is a New England Division III champion in the 5,000-meter run.

Lauer had a time of 17:21.19 to hold off fellow first-years Alison Smith (17:23.96) of Williams College and Elaine McVay (17:26.37) of MIT in the field of 18.

Brittany Reardon added a fourth in the pole vault (11-1.75) and was fifth in the 100 hurdles (14.73). Brittney Bell also had a fourth in the 400 (58.20), Berol Dewdney had a time of 11:04.35 to take sixth in the 3,000 steeplechase, Annabelle Hicks (Coventry, Conn.) was seventh in the 100 (12.53), Karyn King was ninth in the heptathlon (3,528 points) and Frances Onyilagha took ninth in the 200 (25.87).

Colby’s 400 relay team of Bell, Reardon, Onyilagha, and Hicks were third out of 21 teams in 47.70.

USM men: Messalonskee High School graduate David Currier won the 10,000-meter race to lead the University of Maine n the first day of the America East Track and Field Championships.

Currier won the title in an IC4A-qualifying time of 30 minutes 47.66 seconds, which is a top-five school mark.

Mt. Blue graduate Kelton Cullenberg was fourth in his heat in the 1,500 and qualified for today’s final with a time of 3:58.16.

Softball

Maine 5-2, Hartford 1-1: The Black Bears clinched an America East playoff spot by sweeping Hartford.

In Game 1, EmJ Fogel went 2 for 3 with an RBI and also scored a run while Hilary Kane added two doubles. Ashley Kelley earned the win to run her record to 8-11. Winslow graduate Brynn Davis was also 2 for 3 with two runs scored.

In Game 2, Margaret Hilton and Jennifer Eberhardt each had a double and a single. Dagmar Ralphs added a two-run single. Kylie Sparks earned the victory to improve to 4-8.

Maine ups its record to 17-27-1 while Hartford falls to 9-43.

Crew

Colby men 10th at New England Championships: The Colby College men’s varsity 8 took 10th place overall and a second varsity 8 men’s boat was seventh in winning the Petite Final at the 2012 New England Rowing Championships on Saturday in Worcester, Mass.

The women’s varsity 8 boat took 16th overall, while a women’s second varsity 4 boat took fourth place.
