READFIELD — Eben Ballard pitched a complete game and freshman Cam Brochu hit a decisive three-run home run to lead the Maranacook baseball team past rival Gardiner 4-1 in a Class B game Wednesday afternoon.

“Our boys showed up to play,” Maranacook coach Jared Lemieux said. “That’s what it takes to beat a good team. We made a lot of good plays.”

The Tigers (7-7), who dropped their fourth straight game, led 1-0 when Jensen Orewiler hit an RBI infield single in the top of the third.

However, Brochu lined a three-run shot to left to give Maranacook (9-6) a 3-1 lead.

It was more than enough for Ballard, who struck out nine and walked just one. He allowed just three hits.
