MONMOUTH—A Winthrop woman suffered only minor injuries Wednesday when the car she was driving rolled over on Main Street.
Amber J. Hinkley, 24, of Winthrop, suffered just only scratches in the crash, said Monmouth Police Chief Kevin Mulherin. Hinkley was not taken to the hospital by ambulance.
The crash occurred around 7:30 a.m., as Hinkley was driving her 2001 Subaru Forester, north on Main Street, or Route 132. Hinkley told police she swerved to avoid an animal just north of the Warren Road.
The woman lost control of the car, which went onto an embankment and rolled over, Mulherin said. The car came to rest in the yard of a vacant home.
“Some passerby had helped her out of the car before we showed up,” Mulherin said.
Police believe Hinkley was wearing a seat belt.
One lane of Main Street was closed for about 45 minutes as the car was removed from the scene. Mulherin said the Forester was totaled in the crash.
Neither speed nor substances was a factor in the accident, Mulherin said.
