DUDLEY, Mass. — Ally Kennedy of Readfield scored two goals late in the game, but the Thomas College field hockey team couldn’t finish the rally, and lost its season-opener 4-3 to Nichols on Saturday.
Lauren Hachey also scored for Thomas (0-1-0) with an assist from Brittany Premo. Thomas had a chance to tie the game when they were awarded a penalty corner as time expired, but their final shot missed.
Emily Widdison had two goals and an assist, while Jenn Townsend and Amanda Broughton each had one for Nichols (1-0-0).
Central Michigan 1, Maine 0: Erin Dye scored in the first half as in Central Michigan’s win over the Black Bears in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Alicia Frisch had fve saves for the Black Bears (1-3-0).
Anastasia Netto made three saves for Central Michigan (3-1-0).
Maine plays Michigan at 2 p.m. today.
Women’s soccer
Regis 1, Thomas 0: Terriers goalie Kate Thibodeau made 14 saves in a season-opening loss in Waterville.
Adena Joseph scored the lone goal of the game in the 64th minute when she put in a cross by Jasmin Vivar for Regis (1-0-0).
Rachel Gagnon had six saves for Regis.
Also Saturday: Maine Central Institute graduate Michaela George scored two goals as the University of Southern Maine field hockey team beat Wheaton College in the first game of the USM Invitational in Gorham. In the second game, Nokomis graduate Sabrina Vaillancourt had a goal as Husson University beat Neumann University 2-1.
