WATERVILLE — Ali Boulier scored two goals in the first half to lead Bangor to a 5-1 win over Waterville in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A game Tuesday afternoon at Webber Field.
Bangor (2-0) dominated in the first half, possessing and passing the ball around and through the Waterville (1-1-0) defense. After halftime adjustments, Waterville improved it’s attacking game and generated several quality chances against the talented Rams.
“Anytime we can come down here, play like this and grab a win, it’s good,” Bangor coach Joe Johnson said. “We need to treat this as just another regular season win and get better because we know that Waterville is going to improve and will be ready for us next time we play.”
The Panthers started slow and found it difficult to find a way through the Rams back defensive four. Waterville manged just two shots in the first half both from outside the penalty area.
“I think we started out nervous and tight,” Waterville coach Ian Wilson said. “Bangor was the better team today, but I think we played a much better game in the second half.”
The Rams built a 3-0 lead in the first half with Boulier sandwiching a pair of goals around a goal by Jordan Seekins.
Boulier scored both of her goals from just outside the penalty box on the left side, where she collected the ball and hit a swerving left footed shot high into the back corner of the net. Boulier scored her first goal at 29:07 left and her second with 9:36 remaining.
Seekins scored at 23:19 when she carried the ball down the right side and lofted a shot toward the top of the goal. Waterville goalie Gabi Martin got a hand on it, but it deflected off her and over the goal line at 23:19.
“It took a while for us to build our game,” Johnson said. “We have a lot of people playing in new positions and they were learning to adjust.”
Bangor took eight shots in the first half, putting seven on target. Martin finished with seven saves on 15 shots.
Ally Vanidestine gave the Rams a 4-0 lead 10 minutes into the second half.
Less than three minutes later, Kellie Bolduc sent a ball to the back post where Sarah Shoulta redirected it in with her stomach for Waterville’s only goal.
Grace Maclean scored Bangor’s final goal.
