WATERVILLE — An apparent problem with transmission at a substation in the southern part of the city has caused power outages in Sidney, Waterville and Winslow, according to a Central Maine Power Co. spokeswoman.

CMP’s Gail Rice said the outage, which occurred at 2:14 p.m., is affecting 2,581 customers.

“It appears to be a transmission problem and its origin is the south Waterville substation, but I don’t have any more information at this point,” Rice said just before 3 p.m. “We have crews on the way.”

Police officers are out trying to help direct traffic at places where traffic lights are not working because of the outage..
