Olive Taverner laughs Wednesday after dismounting the sidecar of a motorcycle following, a ride in 20 degree F temperatures through Augusta. The 91-year-old said the bike ride, courtesy of the Combat Vets Motorcycle Association, was on the bucket list she composed upon retiring as a teacher in 1986. The resident of Gray Birch Long Term Care in Augusta said the only wish she has to left to complete on the list is a helicopter ride. The side car journey was, she said, “just wonderful.”

Myra Macfie herds a hen away from the road outside her Hallowell home on Wednesday. Macfie has nine free-range hens which provide her eggs, and a bantam rooster that sat in a lawn chair and crowed as Macfie rounded up the miscreant flock.
