Upward Bound program awarded funding for next five years
FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington’s Upward Bound program was recently awarded funding for the next five years by the U.S. Department of Education. The annual grant of $353,456 will be used to help low-income, first-generation students from central Maine prepare for and succeed in post-secondary education.

New Vineyard man takes plea deal in drug, kidnap case
FARMINGTON — A New Vineyard man facing several charges in connection with a woman’s kidnapping last fall accepted a plea agreement Wednesday that would drop more serious charges, including those accusing him of holding the woman hostage at gunpoint.
