PITTSFIELD — Kat Smedberg hit an RBI double in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Maine Central Institute softball team beat Winslow 1-0 in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B game Monday.
Katelyn Sousa reached on an error in the ninth inning to start the rally for MCI (8-6). She advanced on an overthrow, then scored on Smedberg’s double.
Courtney Fowler earned the win, pitching a complete game shutout. She allowed three hits, struck out 14 and walked two. Bri Losee added a double and a single for MCI.
Megan Richards was the tough-luck loser for Winslow (10-5). She allowed one run on five hits, while striking out five. Ali Leclair, Brooke Haskell and Gabby Languet all singled for Winslow.
Edward Little 14, Erskine 6: Avery Bond and Kaitlyn Sutter each had two singles for the Eagles, but it wasn’t enough to beat the Red Eddies, who picked up the KVAC A victory in Auburn.
Molly Murray led Edward Little (10-5) with two doubles.
Erskine falls to 7-8.
Lawrence 5, Hampden 0: Paige Balenger had a double, two singles and scored a run as the Bulldogs beat the Broncos in a KVAC A game in Fairfield.
Sydney Knowlton and Abby King each added a double and a single for Lawrence (7-8).
Nicole MacDougall had two singles for Hampden (3-12).
Carrabec 7, Monmouth 6: The Cobras scored three times in the top of the seventh inning and held on to beat the Mustangs in a Mountain Valley Conference game in Monmouth.
Libby Chestnut had three hits, while Jessica Vaillancourt had a double and two RBIs for Carrabec (4-9). Brooke Lewis added two hits, scored two runs and drove in a run for the Cobras.
Paxton Lessard had two RBIs for Monmouth (6-6).
Oak Hill 9, Mt. Abram 2: Jamie Prue had a triple, a single and drove in a run as the Raiders beat the Roadrunners in an MVC game in Wales.
Kortni Michaud added a double, two singles and an RBI for Oak Hill (12-3). She also earned the win, striking out 11 in a complete game. Brianna Hodgkins chipped in with a double, a single and two RBIs.
Katie Jordan doubled for Mt. Abram (5-9).
Gardiner 6, Nokomis 4: Kylee Granholm had three hits to lead the Tigers to a KVAC B win over the Warriors in Newport.
Morgan Carver added a double for Gardiner (13-1).
Taylor Lovely had two hits for Nokomis (9-5), including a double.
Brewer 3, Messalonskee 2: Sam Pellegrino had a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Witches took a 3-1 lead and held on for the KVAC A win in Brewer.
Phoebe Pelletier had an RBI double in the third inning and drove in another run in the sixth when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the sixth for Messalonskee (11-4). Bri Garland scored both runs for the Eagles. Kylee Knight had three singles and Courtney Veilleux added two singles for Messalonskee.
Morgan Small had a double for Brewer (15-0).
