Western Maine Storytelling Festival Benefit brunch set for Saturday
The Diamond Corner Bed and Breakfast, 8 Rangeley Road, corner of routes 27 and 16, in Stratton will offer a special “Storytelling Sampler” brunch at 10 a.m. Saturday. The menu will include breakfast breads, ginger breads, mini quiche and fresh fruit, plus coffee, tea and orange juice. The cost is $20 per person, or $30 for two people.
Suicide survivors support group offered by Hospice of Waterville
Hospice Volunteers of Waterville Area will offer an eight-week Survivors of Suicide Support Group starting Tuesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. for adults who have lost a loved one from suicide. The group will meet at the Hospice Community Center, 304 Main St.

At his news conference Tuesday, President Barack Obama made a powerful plea for ending the humanitarian and diplomatic disaster created by the continued detention of more than 160 prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, more than 100 of whom are engaged in a hunger strike that necessitated the dispatch of an emergency medical team. The problem is that Obama has contributed to the crisis by acquiescing in congressional obstruction of his promise to close the facility.
