The Morning Sentinel has named Bill Smith, a veteran of more than 25 years in community journalism, as the newspaper’s city editor.

Smith comes to Waterville from the New Hampshire Union Leader, of Manchester, N.H.

He also has worked as an editor and reporter at newspapers in Lowell, Peabody, Haverhill and Lawrence in Massachusetts.

“I’m happy to join the talented staff of the Morning Sentinel to help bring residents news from and about their community,” Smith said.

A graduate of Boston College, Smith began his journalism career in broadcasting, working as a news reporter at radio stations in Boston, Waltham and Cambridge, Mass.
