WATERVILLE — In celebration of National Trails Day, Kennebec Messalonskee Trails will host an annual celebration of the local trails system. The event begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at the Head of Falls, according to a KMT press release.
A short program will include brief statements by KMTrails, City of Waterville, including Mayor Karen Heck and other officials. A new, detailed map of area trails will be available, as well as wellness information provided by Inland Hospital, MaineGeneral Health and the Central Maine chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association.
The city will recognize outgoing president of KMTrails, Peter Garrett, for his vision for advocacy of and continued dedication to an accessible area trails system.
The walk begins at Head of Falls, across the Two-Cent Bridge to Winslow and along the East Kennebec Trail to the Rotary Centennial Trail in Benton. Cyclists are welcome and bikes will begin the trek in advance of pedestrians. This free event occurs rain or shine.
