Augusta is a community where kids grow up and stay throughout their adulthood. Both of my parents have, as well as many of my neighbors and family. Most of them have used the library extensively and brought their families with them.
The library is a place where kids can feel safe and feel wanted. I remember that I cherished my library card; it opened my mind to different worlds. The library helped me become more studious, and I felt like there was always someone there to help me. Whether it be to find a good book, or guide me through the research process, it was always one big helping family.
We now have an opportunity to continue this tradition. The library has become outdated, uninviting and worn out; it’s time for a wake-up call. It needs additional parking; it needs a more modern facility; it needs to expand so we can accomplish our goals in the comfort of a safe environment.
It may seem a small return for a healthy amount of money, but when you see a child dragging his mother through the front entrance on Winthrop Street, looking forward to reading and learning, it will be worth the price. The community needs a healthy library. It can become a vital part of the learning community.
Let’s plant our kids in a rich garden so they may grow into intelligent, responsible citizens. A new library can help accomplish this goal.
