I intend to vote “yes” for the renovation and expansion of the Lithgow Public Library.

The library is Augusta’s community center. The concerts and lectures presented there are varied, sometimes featuring local musicians, sometimes our own writers or artists, and sometimes experts on topics that are diverse but always thought-provoking.

The “one book” A Capital Read program has done much to generate a common source of interest among this city’s residents. The interlibrary loan program is a wonderful resource for research books and books read for pleasure. Students need the library to further educate themselves on school topics and to complete assignments.

The staff goes beyond their job descriptions to help people with myriad issues. They represent the city of Augusta to residents and visitors alike in a professional and positive light, no matter whether the person is old or young, rich or poor, intellectually gifted or challenged, and all those in between.

I count myself fortunate to live in a community that has a place like Lithgow Public Library, and urge others to vote “yes” on June 10.
