PITTSFIELD — Becky Orcutt allowed four hits and struck out 10 to lead Nokomis to a 14-2 win against Maine Central Institute in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B regular-season softball finale for both teams. Nokomis scored three runs in the first inning and five in the second to take control ofthe game. Sierra Horton and Orcutt led the offense with two hits apiece. Maine Central Institute finishes at 5-11 while Nokomis closes at 15-1.
BASEBALL
WINSLOW 13, LEAVITT 1, 5 innings: The Black Raiders (13-3) exploded for 11 runs in the third innings to score a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference B victory over Leavitt (6-10) in five innings Thursday.
Bobby Chenard and Ben Smith each had a pair of singles and two RBIs for Winslow, while Dylan Hapworth struck out five in three innings to improve to 5-1 on the mound.
BOYS TENNIS
Class A East
No. 3 HAMPDEN 5, No. 6 SKOWHEGAN 0: The Broncos swept the Indians to advance to Saturday’s semifinals. Hampden is 11-2 while Skowhegan finishes at 5-8.
Class B East
No. 1 ELLSWORTH 5, No. 8 WINSLOW 0: The unbeaten Eagles advanced to Saturday’s semfinals with their sweep against the Black Raiders. Ellsworth is 13-0 while Winslow finishes at 9-5.
